WYGL Select Program Charter

Goal: WYGL develops complete athletes and love of the game for the WHS Varsity Girls Lacrosse program. 

Approach: For each grade level, head coaches will roster no more than 18 players as a full time team. Head coaches alone will have final say in the roster for their team - which will be based on a combination of player evaluations from prior season as well as at least ONE tryout opportunity. Tryouts will be staffed by the team head coach, the select coordinator, and WHS head coach as available - evaluations will be completed by non-parents ONLY. During the season, head coaches should strive to ensure playing time in games for all full time squad players. The goal at younger ages (3/4 in particular) is to build skills and love of the game. However, as our goal is to ready players for a higher level of competitive play in High School, playing time will not be equal, as will positions, and both will be at the Head Coach’s discretion. WYGL will not accept feedback from parents on players' positions. 

In order to ensure equitable access to our Select program, WYGL will offer an “alternates” or practice squad opportunity for limited players who want to develop their skills, but are not yet at the level of skill and lacrosse IQ of other players - but excel at the attitude, coachability and fitness domains of the player evaluation. Number of alternates is at the coach’s discretion, if any.

Alternates may be asked to join Select games when needed. Alternates will pay a fee that is 50% of a full time player.
